Stat 515 - Fall 2001 - Correctons to Statistcs (8th ed.)

Page 123. The conditional probabilities in the middle of the page should be: P(B|A)=.05/.25=.20 and P(BC|A)=.20/.25=.80. The paragraph that follows is then correct .80 is to .20 as .2 is to .05, both are 4 to 1.

Page 174. In definition 4.6, it should be E[(x-mu)2], not x=mu.

Page 183. In example 4.9 there is an error for p(0) and p(4). p(0)=1(1)(.9)4 and p(4)=1(.1)4(1) because .10 and .90 should both be equal to 1. The rest of those lines are correct.

Page 299. The data for problem 7.34 should have 6.1 as the eighth entry instead of 6.4. (The results will then match the computer output given in the problem, and the data set provided on the disk.)
