A stem and leaf plot is a character based plot of a variable which is similar to a histogram turned on its side. The actual (or approximate) data values are represented in the plot. To construct a stem and leaf plot, begin by selecting the Stem and Leaf Plot option under the Graphics menu. When the dialog window appears, select the variable(s) for which the stem and leaf plot(s) will be constructed as shown below for the Iris data. If you select more than one variable, the stem and leaf plots will be displayed sequentially in the Results panel.
