The number of cases of diarrhoea-associated haemolytic uraemic syndrome (HUS) for the years 1970-1989 was reported by Henderson and Matthews (1991) for centers in two cities within the United Kingdom. There was concern that the number of annual cases of HUS had increased in the late 1980's.
