Research
The Department of Statistics at the University of South Carolina
undertakes high-quality research in a broad range of topics.
Our research activities are organized into six Research Themes,
each having a Theme Leader and members from the Faculty and Graduate
Students. The Department holds a Colloquium Series and
informal Research Seminars. The
Research Themes are:
Survival analysis and reliability
[semi- and non-parametric inference in survival analysis and
reliability, stochastic processes]
Theme leader: Edsel Pena
Theme members: Grego, Lynch, Pena, Wang, Zhao
Latent variable and mixed effects models
[latent variable and measurement error models, group testing, robustness,
Bayesian hierarchical models, generalized linear mixed models, non-linear mixed models,
clustering, inter-rater agreement.]
Theme leader: Joshua Tebbs Theme members: Edwards,
Grego, Habing, Hitchcock, Lin, Huang, Tebbs, Wang
Highly structured data
[shape analysis, functional data analysis, image analysis, medical imaging]
Theme leader: Ian Dryden
Theme members: Dryden, Hitchcock, Wang
Simultaneous
inference
[large p small n testing, multiple comparisons, multiple testing]
Theme leader: Don Edwards
Theme members: Edwards, Pena, Tebbs, Wang
Psychometrics and Educational Measurement
[item response theory]
Theme leader: Brian Habing
Theme members: Habing, Lin
Biomedical and environmental applications
[bioinformatics, spatial statistics, ecological applications, longitudinal
data analysis, medicare fraud detection]
Theme leader: John Grego Theme members: Dryden,
Edwards, Grego, Huang, Pena, Tebbs, Wang, Zhao
