PurposeThe weakening of the United States' position in the world electronics and automotive industries has been attributed in large part to the advances during the last forty years by the Japanese in the area of quality improvement. The continual improvement of quality is vital to the survival of manufacturing and service industries. The Department of Statistics operates a Center for Reliability and Quality Sciences. The Center serves all quality professionals, managers, supervisors and engineers, and can provide statistical expertise on quality problems through its personnel.
