Ph.D. student Haiming Zhou won the Outstanding Student Paper Competition (senior category) at the 2014 South Carolina ASA chapter meeting. Congratulations, Haiming! See the SCASA website for photos of the event.

Tim Hanson was selected as a Fellow of the American Statistical Association, among the highest honors for a statistician.

Annual Newsletter 2012
The department annual newsletter for 2012 is available.

Ian Dryden was elected to be a Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics.

Leslie Hendrix received the 2012 John Gardner Inspirational Faculty Award.

Ph.D. candidate Chris McMahan won one of two 2012 Dean's Awards for Excellence in Graduate Study. (Photo)
He has also been named one of 16 Distinguished Graduate Scholars by the Office of Research, as publicized in the spring issue of Breakthrough magazine. He will be a tenure-track assistant professor at Clemson University starting fall 2012.

Office manager/business manager Tina Ormenisan has won the 2012 College of Arts and Sciences Classified Staff Excellence Award.

The Palmetto Lecturer for 2012 was Ed George, Professor and Chair, Department of Statistics, The Wharton School.
Dr. George visited the Department from April 9-13.

Megan (Meece) Mocko (MS 2001) was featured in a Sept. 2011 AmStat News article, "Where Will Your Next Stop Take You?".
Megan is now a Senior Lecturer at the University of Florida.

A short course on "Applied Bayesian Nonparametrics" was given in the department on August 22-24
by Tim Hanson and Alejandro Jara, who was visiting from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.

We are very pleased to announce that graduate student Bereket Kindo has been awarded an academic scholarship
