I have always felt like a valued member of the department as a student, teacher, and researcher. I benefited from the emphasis on a balance between theory and applied statistics while at USC through the diverse courses that were offered like Probability Theory to a practicum on how to be a statistical consultant. My goal has always been to go into academics and I feel that I have been fully prepared to do such. Beginning as a lab instructor in my first year to teaching both Statistics 110 and Statistics 201, I have been able to gain valuable, diverse experiences. Also, I had many opportunities to attend conferences locally and nationally and to present my research. I also enjoyed being part of Dr. Pena's research group that met weekly and sometimes bi-weekly which gave me the opportunity to present my research on a regular basis to my peers and also to see the research that my peers were working on. As a former president of Stat Club and of Mu Sigma Rho (Statistics Honor Society), I have very much enjoyed making friends and having a full experience both in and out of the classroom at USC. I feel that the Ph.D. program at the University of South Carolina has fully prepared me to join the Department of Mathematics at Elon University as an Assistant Professor of Statistics.
