Purpose: To help the student understand the role of the statistical consultant with an emphasis on consulting skills and consulting lab operations. To develop students' consulting skills under the supervision of an experienced consultant. To provide opportunities to analyze difficult statistical problems.

Topics Covered	Time
General discussion of statistical consulting. The role of the statistician in the experimental process; the tools and training necessary for statistical consulting; principles of good consulting practice.	3 weeks
Consulting practice. Observations of both taped and live consulting sessions; learning to critique consulting sessions; brainstorming with students and an experienced consultant on consulting problems; preparing consulting recommendations.	11 weeks
