An Introduction to WebStat 3.0
WebStat is a statistical software tool that runs in the form of Java applet
on the World Wide Web. The package was originally released in 1997 to serve
primarily as an educational data analysis tool. The first two versions of
the software have been developed with the novice user in mind offering the
basic statistical and graphical routines that are encountered in an
introductory statistics course. With this educational focus, WebStat has
been used as the primary data analysis tool in a number of statistics
courses. In addition, WebStat has also become a popular tool for
disseminating data across the World Wide Web.
The latest version, 3.0, to be released this Fall contains numerous
new features that extend the capabilities of the software several orders of
magnitude beyond previous versions. These new
features include linked interactive graphics, simulation tools, new
routines for importing data such as the ability to read Microsoft Excel
files, and a number of routines for segmenting and grouping data. These new
features will be demonstrated in the context
of a tutorial for using WebStat 3.0.
