Cure Fractions and Bones

In this talk I will give a brief overview as to how the topics of demography and statistics relate to each other. I will describe two projects that I was involved on while at the Max Planck Institute for Demography. The first project examines which factors are influential in determining if and when a woman has her first child in German women over the time period 1960-1990, while accounting appropriately for childless women using an event-history analysis model. The second project involves the examination of human skeletons from the past to estimate the age at death, what the age distribution of the population of interest may have been, and how such analyses are conducted in practice.
